Fall Protection

Fall protection is the use of personal fall protection systems or other methods to prevent or minimize the risk of injury from falls from heights.
SPRAT, the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians, is an organization that provides certification and standards for rope access and fall protection. SPRAT has developed a fall protection certification program that establishes a baseline minimum of skills for the use of personal fall protection systems other than rope access.
The program consists of seven exercise requirements, each focusing on the minimization of free fall potential during the use of and transition between fall protection systems. The exercises are evaluated based on performance principles and a grading scheme matching SPRAT’s rope access evaluation.
The fall protection certification is valid for three years and is not a pre-requisite for obtaining a SPRAT rope access certification. SPRAT also provides fall protection evaluation guidelines, clearance requirement guidelines, and presiding regulatory authority reference to assist candidates and evaluators in preparing and conducting the fall protection evaluation.
